Josh PBS "Video Games Live" Airing  (2010-06-06)

You may recall an article we wrote back in December stating that PBS, the people who brought you Reading Rainbow, Mr. Rogers Neighborhood and Barney would be airing Video Games Live for 90 minutes, which will debut July 31. In case you aren't familiar with what VGL is, it is essentially an orchestra entirely dedicated to playing your favorite video game themes, with a classical twist.

If you're planning on tuning in, you can check out the trailer posted after the jump to see what you're in for, or read this press release to see what games the orchestra will be sampling during its performance.

In case you don't feel like reading the entire press release the site states that:

So mark your calendars and tune into PBS on July 31st. When we get an exact time we will let you know.

Scott Some Details on The Avengers  (2010-06-06)

In January we talked about some casting announcements and rumors for the Avengers movie franchise. One of those rumors was that Jeremy Renner was in talks to play Hawkeye, the purple-masked archer of the team. Since then, his career has changed a little bit and he is now a much bigger name than he was even 4 months ago.

This is because of the success of his last film, The Hurt Locker for which he was nominated for Best Actor at the Academy Awards. The fact that he didn't win does not change the fact that his nomination brought his name into the public consciousness. It also helps that the film itself won several awards, including Picture of the Year.

Timothy "Dum Dum" Dug an has been cast as well for the upcoming Captain America: The First Avenger. Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li and The Incredible Hulk animated series actor Neil McDonough has been tapped to portray the character. The importance of this is that the character's first appearance in the Marvel comic Universe was at the same time as Nick Fury. Nick Fury, as we all know, is played by Samuel L. Jackson in the movie universe.

In the present-day timeline that we are accustomed to, Fury has already formed SHIELD. In the Captain America timeline, however, Fury led a group of commandos to fight the Nazis (with both eyes, mind you). So, the inclusion of Dum Dum might indicate that we could see Sam L fighting Hitler, and it just doesn't get too much better than that.

What do you think about these casting and storyline decisions? Let us know in the comments!

Nick No Foursquare at Tiananmen Square  (2010-06-06)

Everyone here at the show can agree on two things: Foursquare is the coolest application ever and China's government is always looking for new things to ban their country's residents from. I guess they figured since Google gave up on them, they needed a new target, so this week, China has blocked access to Foursquare, due to too many people checking in at Tiananmen Square. This ban, however, does come during the week of the 21st anniversary of the massacre at that location.

Ever since that day, June 4th, 1989, when over 3,000 protestors and students were killed by the Chinese government for protesting against communism, the Chinese government has forbidden any talk or postings about the occurrence. This does extend to the Internet.

Even Google censored data about the incident back in 2006, but with the increase in users on social networking sites, the efforts to cease talk about the topic has become more futile. Last year the government went so far as to block access to Twitter, Flickr and Hotmail days before the anniversary.

This year, protestors used the Foursquare application to post "tips" stating their views and comments. The Chinese government may have learned about this through the application's ability to post users' check-ins to Facebook and Twitter.

At any rate, China has blocked the app. We can safely guess Foursquare will be unblocked sometime next week. But until then, protestors will have to find another way.
